The 'Body Control Method' is based on the work of Joseph Pilates (1880-1967), who created a series of exercises that built strength without adding bulk and balanced that strength with flexibility.
The 'classical' Pilates exercises that Joseph developed may take many years to perfect and initially be beyond the capability of the average person, so 'Body Control' have broken the exercises down, teaching good movement skills step by step so that everybody can enjoy the benefits of Pilates whilst working safely and effectively as they move towards their goal.
Once the principles of Pilates are understood, the exercises are progressed and more challenge is added by using the weight of the body.
Body Control Pilates is remarkably effective - and medically-approved. It is of a holistic nature, being based upon a well-constructed philosophical foundation. Central to the Method is 'awareness of your own body' and each and every exercise is built around its eight basic principles:
Relaxation | Concentration |
Co-ordination | Centring |
Alignment | Breathing |
Stamina | Flowing Movements |
